Getting Around

We are slowly making our way (in somewhat concentric circles) expanding our knowledge of the area. I promised Maggie we could go to the public library again, so she could get her prize for the summer reading program they have here. We had gone earlier in the week to get prizes (which the boys did receive) when our hope was dashed that she could get hers without the official fill-in-the-blank yellow card. Needless to say, you would have thought her little heart would break. The teardrops and sobs finally ended when Scot came to her rescue. He let her choose one of his prizes in exchange for one of hers when we came back. That all happened on Monday. Wednesday is a long way from Monday for a 5 year old when it comes to returning a promised favor. This morning, as she realized she would have to give up her prize to Scot, Maggie was again nearly inconsolable. Our field trip was nearly canceled, but she was finally persuaded to honor her committment. Under strict edict not to cry, but happily and thankfully hand over the prize, we made our way to the prize counter. Not even pretending a stiff upper lip, Maggie held true to her promise. And so, the library is still an enchanted place of books and prizes, on the top 5 places the kids love to visit.
